Charlynn Miller from University of Ballarat invited to speak at next ACS networking forum
The Pros and Cons of Social Networking in a Business Context
We continue to hear about social networking rapidly taking over from email as a communication tool, particularly amongst younger workers. So how does this work within a workplace context? What are the implications for reasonable use of business time, HR policy, content and security? Why have some workplaces closed access to Facebook, MySpace or YouTube, and others allow full access to staff? Is there essentially any difference between the use of email and social networking? Can Social Networking increase work productivity or creativity or is it just a distraction?
At the June Branch Forum, come and find out what our panellists think about this topic and discuss the Pros and Cons of Social Networking in a business context. Our panellists come from academic, HR and information security point of view. Come along and take part in what promises to be an interesting discussion relevant to all of us in our working environment.

Dr Charlynn Miller, Lecturer, University of Ballarat, Graduate School of Information Technology & Mathematical Sciences
Charlynn is a lecturer in IT with a focus on emerging technologies and business. She is also an active researcher and postgraduate supervisor in the area of emerging technologies and their impact on learning, business, and social systems. She is currently involved in two funded research projects: cyber-bullying in schools and the impact of virtual worlds on tertiary learning. She entered academic life after an 18 year career in IT and business. Charlynn is a committed user of the technologies that she researches, including social networking sites such as LinkedIn and Facebook. Charlynn is also an ACS member and an ACS-W Victoria committee member.
Corry Brouwer, General Manager Technology Assurance & Global Information Security, ANZCorry is an ICT industry expert with over 35 years experience. He has held his current role at ANZ for the last two years managing Technology Risk and Information Security for ANZ. Since Corry joined the ANZ in 2003, he has been responsible for improving the delivery outcomes for a number of IT programs resulting in a more secure, safer, faster and dependable project and systems environment.
David Talamelli, Principal Recruiter for Oracle Corporation in the APAC Region.David is responsible for end to end recruitment for Oracle across Australia and New Zealand with some exposure across other APAC countries. He has been with Oracle in their APAC Recruitment Division for 3 years. David has 10 years IT Recruitment experience with previous roles onsite at Hewlett-Packard and also at GAP IT Consulting. David is an active user of social networking for business purposes and maintains a blog (http://blogs.oracle.com/jobsatoracle/) for Oracle recruitment activities whilst using many other social networking media for his work.
