IBM’s latest global initiative, Smart Planet

John Twine, Director for Sector Services, Global Technology Services, IBM was our guest speaker for the March UPTB & BITS breakfast.

The list of global problems is well-known: financial crisis, climate disruption, energy geopolitics and food supply hazards. What they show is that we're all connected, today like never before: economically, socially and technically. When a crisis occurs on one part of the planet, it can bring problems to another part, within days or even hours.

Why get smarter?

Because we can: the technology is both available and affordable. Because we must: the shocks we've seen to so many systems show that the current approaches aren't sustainable.

Guest speaker biography

Since January 2009, John Twine has been responsible for business development across all of IBM’s Sector Coverage Business. Prior to this time, John was the General Manager of the Integrated Technology Services Division, including Cerulean and Classic Blue, within IBM Global Technology Services. In this role, he was responsible for marketing and delivery of a broad range of IT Infrastructure Services including integration, deployment and managed services for data centres and networks, and technical support services for IBM and selected non-IBM products in the Australian and New Zealand markets.
